Armenian Opposition Activist Released From Prison

TEXT SIZE - +
A prominent Armenian activist has vowed to continue to fight for regime change in Armenia as he was released from jail.

Vartan Malkhasian was sentenced to two years in prison in August 2007 after he was found guilty of publicly calling for a "violent change of the constitutional order."

Malkhasian and his supporters say that the charges were politically motivated.

Speaking to RFE/RL's Armenian Service on December 10, the day of his release, Malkhasian said he is not worried that Armenian officials may use his tough talk to imprison him again. He said: "I simply exercised my constitutional right [to free speech]."
