Unpaid Workers In Southern Kazakhstan On Hunger Strike

TEXT SIZE - +
TARAZ, Kazakhstan -- Employees of a construction company in Kazakhstan's southern city of Taraz are on hunger strike after not being paid their overdue wages. The hunger strike began December 30.

The director of the Tarazkuanysh-Kurylys construction company, Arman Baldanbayev, told RFE/RL's Kazakh Service that his company does not have the money to pay the overdue wages.

He says the company's main client in the Aqmola region, in northern Kazakhstan, has been late paying for services rendered, which he says has caused the delay in wages.
