Gorkhmaz Asgarov is a contributing journalist based in Washington, DC with RFE/RL’s Azeri Service, where he writes about foreign policy and Azeri-U.S. relations. Prior to joining RFE/RL in 2007, he worked for 10 years as a senior political officer in the Baku office of the National Democratic Institute for International Affairs. While studying at Baku State University, Gorkhmaz worked as a journalist for various newspapers in Azerbaijan, including Aydinlig, Azadliq and Chagh.
MA in International Boundary Studies from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) of the University of London (1999-2000), UK; Diploma from the Department of International Law and International Relations of Baku State University (1991-1997), Baku, Azerbaijan.
