Golnaz Esfandiari is a correspondent in RFE/RL's Central Newsroom. She previously worked in RFE/RL ‘s Central Newsroom as head of the Asia Desk and before that, as a correspondent covering developments in Iran and Afghanistan. Born in Tehran, Golnaz holds a master's degree in clinical psychology from Prague's Charles University. Her writing has focused on politics, human rights, and social issues in Iran and Afghanistan. She has traveled to Afghanistan several times and reported on the country’s first parliamentary elections. Golnaz also obtained an exclusive interview with Afghanistan’s first female governor. Another interview with the wife of Iran's most prominent investigative journalist, Akbar Ganji, was published in 6 languages (including English, German, Russian and Arabic) at the occasion of the 2006 World Press Freedom Day.
