At Least Three Killed In Car-Bomb Blast At Baghdad Hotel

Baghdad, 28 January 2004 (RFE/RL) -- A car bomb blew off the front of a hotel in the center of Baghdad today, killing at least three people.

The U.S. military says three civilians died in the blast at the Shahin hotel. Doctors said at least five people were injured.

The incident occurred one day after UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan said he is willing to send a team to Iraq to assess whether elections can be held in five months if he can be convinced there is adequate security for such a mission.

Yesterday, at least 12 people -- including six U.S. soldiers and two Iraqi employees of the CNN television network -- were killed in separate attacks in Iraq.

RFE/RL has been declared an "undesirable organization" by the Russian government.
