U.S. Targets Terrorist Hideout In Al-Fallujah

1 July 2004 -- Local hospital officials say at least four people are dead following a U.S. military air strike on a suspected terrorist target in the central Iraqi city of Al-Fallujah late yesterday.

Some media reports suggest the death toll might be higher.

The U.S. military says the air strike was aimed at a suspected hideout of Abu Mus'ab al-Zarqawi, an alleged mastermind of the anti-U.S. insurgency in Iraq.

Also in Iraq, a senior Iraqi Finance Ministry official was injured and two of his staff members were killed when an explosion struck their convoy in Baghdad.

One soldier from the U.S.-led coalition was also reported killed today and two others wounded after a roadside bomb struck their convoy near the northern city of Mosul. A coalition spokesman declined to give the nationalities of the victims.
