Russian Police Arrest Man With Homemade Bomb

15 September 2004 -- Russian police say they have arrested a Chechen man carrying a homemade bomb in the south of Moscow.

Interfax quotes police officials as saying today that the suspect is a 26-year-old man from the Chechen capital Grozny who was not registered, as required in the Russian capital.

The Russian news agency says the suspect was arrested yesterday while in possession of a cardboard box containing 150 grams of the explosive ammonite, a battery, and a homemade detonator.

The report of the arrest came amid heightened security in Moscow and other parts of Russia following a recent wave of terror attacks that killed more than 400 people.
