Azerbaijan's President Visiting Iran

25 January 2005 -- Ilham Aliyev is in Tehran today for his first official visit to Iran since becoming Azerbaijan's president in October 2003.

Iranian Foreign Minister Kamal Kharrazi said shortly after Aliyev's arrival yesterday that a number of "important" decisions that will strengthen bilateral relations will be made during the three-day visit.

The Iranian Embassy in Baku said that as many as eight documents -- mostly economic -- are expected to be signed.

Aliyev is scheduled to meet with Iran's President Mohammad Khatami and possibly Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khomeini before leaving tomorrow.
