The Associated Press quotes Abdullah, speaking on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, as saying the elections might need to be held after the 20 May deadline because of "technical preparations." He didn't elaborate.

Afghanistan's parliamentary elections were originally to have taken place by June 2004, but were postponed because of security and technical problems. Now, in order to conduct the vote on time, Afghanistan's electoral laws must be changed. Other issues, such as the voting system to be used, are also still being debated in Kabul.
