Uzbek Court Jails Six For Attacks

21 February 2005 -- An Uzbek court today reportedly jailed six people for alleged involvement in last year's series of suicide blasts and attacks in Uzbekistan.

Uzbek human rights activist Surat Ikramov of the Independent Human Rights Organization's Initiative Group says two women and four men were jailed for between seven and 16 years for their alleged roles in the violence in March and April against the U.S. and Israeli embassies and other targets.

The attacks killed several Uzbek security guards and suspects who either blew themselves up or were killed by police.

Uzbek authorities have arrested more than 100 people for alleged involvement in the wave of attacks.
