Uzbekistan Ready To Work With Authorities In Bishkek

26 March 2005 (RFE/RL) -- The Uzbek government today said it is ready to work with authorities in Kyrgyzstan.

The Foreign Ministry released a statement saying that "Uzbekistan declares its readiness to cooperate with the leadership, government, and parliament of Kyrgyzstan, which have the support and trust of the national population."

The statement also said that "Uzbekistan thinks that the Kyrgyz events of recent weeks and days are not spontaneous processes. They are a result of the protracted dissatisfaction of people with their disastrous social and economic position, despair, and corruption."

The Uzbek government said that it would like to see international organizations launch a relief effort for Kyrgyzstan. It called financial and humanitarian aid vital for stabilizing the country.
