UN Condemns Discrimination Against Muslims

Prague, 12 April 2005 (RFE/RL) -- The United Nations Commission on Human Rights today condemned what the 53-member forum says is discrimination against Muslims in the West's war on terrorism.

The commission adopted a resolution deploring what it says is the intensification of a "campaign of defamation" against Muslims following the September 11 attacks in the United States.

The Commission called for fighting defamation of religions, especially Islam.

The resolution was presented to the Commission by Pakistan on behalf of the Organization of the Islamic Conference, an association of 56 Islamic states promoting Muslim solidarity in economic, social, and political affairs. (RTR/WWW.OIC-OCI.ORG)
