Group Storms Kyrgyz Supreme Court

Bishkek, 1 June 2005 (RFE/RL) -- Reports from Bishkek say a crowd of up to 300 people have stormed the Kyrgyz Supreme Court.

Reports say they evicted supporters of five losing parliamentary candidates who had occupied the building since April. Witnesses say the crowd broke into the building to eject the protesters and allow the court to work.

Earlier today, ITAR-TASS reported clashes near the Supreme Court building between supporters and opponents of Kyrgyzstan's government. The agency reports that defenders of the building met the attackers by hurling petrol bombs.
