Severe Flooding Continues In China

24 June 2005 -- Flooding and landslides across China have killed 536 people and caused nearly $2.5 billion in losses this year.

That according to a report today by the Xinhua news agency.

It said in the past few days, at least 97 people had been killed and 41 are missing in southern China, where days of torrential rain had pushed rivers past their breaking points and sparked mud slides.

Some 1.4 million people have been evacuated in six provinces, with floodwaters climbing up to four stories tall in the industrial cityof Wuzhou in the Guangxi region, one of the worst-hit areas.
