U.S., UN, Russia Condemn Attacks In Sharm El-Sheikh

23 July 2005 -- The United States, Russia, and the United Nations have all condemned terrorist strikes today that killed at least 62 people in Egypt's Red Sea resort of Sharm El-Sheikh.

U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, on a visit to Jerusalem, called the bombings "horrific" and "senseless."

In a statement, the Russian Foreign Ministry called the bombings "a criminal act" and sent its condolences to families of victims.

A spokesman for Kofi Annan said in New York that the UN secretary-general reacted with "sorrow and anger" to news of the attacks on two hotels and a tourist bazaar in the tourist-packed seaside resort.

Close to 200 people were wounded, many of them foreigners.
