Car Bomb In Chechen Capital Kills Boy


15 August 2005 (RFE/RL) -- A car bomb exploded in downtown Grozny today killing a young boy and wounding nine other people.

Chechnya's Deputy Interior Minister Ahmed Dakaev said four of the wounded were police officers. One was listed in serious condition in a local hospital.

Russia's ITAR-TASS news agency reported that the explosion happened about 200 meters from a heavily protected compound of government buildings.

Chechen authorities have opened an investigation into the bombing.
