U.S. Troops Conduct Raids In Iraqi Capital

29 September 2005 -- U.S. troops in Iraq reportedly raided the Baghdad homes of two officials from Sunni Arab organizations today, making arrests and confiscating weapons.

Adnan al-Dulaimi of the Conference for Iraq's People and Harith al-Obeidi of the Iraqi Islamic Party condemned the reported raids on their homes.

The Iraqi Islamic Party and the Conference for Iraq's People are leading political organizations representing Iraq's Sunni minority. The two groups are campaigning to block a draft constitution in an upcoming referendum.

The U.S. military said it conducted raids in Baghdad today but did not identify the homes that were targeted.

Also in the Iraqi capital today, insurgents killed at least four people and wounded at least eight others in three attacks on civilians.
