Investigation Of Ukrainian Security Council Head Dropped

Petro Poroshenko (file photo) (epa) 21 October 2005 -- Ukrainian authorities today dropped a criminal investigation against Petro Poroshenko, an ally of President Viktor Yushchenko.

The Prosecutor-General's Office says the case against Poroshenko, a former head of Ukraine's National Security and Defense Council, was dropped for lack of evidence.

The investigation against Poroshenko started after he was accused of abuse of authority when he was chief of the National Security and Defense Council.

The investigation was initiated by Ukraine's previous prosecutor-general, Svyastoslav Piskun, who was fired last week.
