During the meeting, Karzai said he traveled to the quake-hit country to express the Afghan people's sorrow and grief
over the heavy loss of life and damage to infrastructure.

"My brother, do count on us. In whatever way we can, the Afghan nation will be there to give you assistance and help
[following the earthquake in Pakistan]."

Musharraf said Pakistan was grateful to Afghanistan's people and government for extending relief assistance.

Karzai arrived in Pakistan earlier today for a one-day visit, bringing five tons of medicines and medical equipment
as well as 30 doctors and nurses who will travel to the quake zone.

Pakistan's top relief official, Major General Farooq Ahmed Khan, said yesterday that the official quake toll was more than
53,000 dead and 75,000 injured.
