North Ossetian Health Minister Aleksandr Reutov said that republican Prime Minister Aleksandr Merkulov was in a serious condition, but that his life was not in danger.

Russian media reported that Merkulov was injured when his car crashed into a tree on a highway in neighboring Kabardino-Balkariya. At least one person -- according to the reports Merkulov's bodyguard -- died in the crash.
