Scores Of Taliban Surrender Under Amnesty --> (RFE/RL) 5 February 2006 --  More than 170 Taliban and other Islamist fighters in Afghanistan surrendered today as part of an Afghan government amnesty.

The head of the government's reconciliation commission, Sebghattullah Mujaddadi, formally announced the mass surrender at a ceremony in the capital Kabul.

The government says more than a thousand Taliban and members of the allied Hezb-e Islami movement have taken advantage of the amnesty since it was offered less than a year ago.
