Director Of Collapsed Moscow Market Detained For Negligence


The market was preparing to open for business when the roof caved in (ITAR-TASS) 24 February 2006 -- The Moscow city prosecutor says the director of a market where more than 60 people died in a roof collapse has been detained.


The ITAR-TASS agency quotes Anatoly Zuyev as saying the director, Mark Meshiyev, has been detained on suspicion of causing death through negligence.


As many as 61 people died when the roof of the indoor market collapsed yesterday.


Rescuers earlier today called off the search for survivors beneath the rubble.
