Freed Journalist Forced To Make Video

Jill Carroll (epa) April 2, 2006 -- Released Iraq hostage Jill Carroll has distanced herself from her previous critical statements about United States involvement in Iraq.

In a statement read by her editor, the American journalist says her captors forced her to make false statements in a propaganda video to gain her freedom.

In the video posted by her kidnappers on a militant website, Carroll denounced the U.S. presence in Iraq, praised militants fighting American forces and predicted insurgents would defeat American troops.

Carroll arrived at a U.S. air base in Germany on April 1 on her way home to the United States, two days after being freed in Iraq.
