Election Officials Release Final Results In Ukraine Poll


Rynat Akhmetov, a top official with the winning Party of Regions, speaks to the media at a press conference in Kyiv on March 30 (epa) April 10, 2006 -- Election officials in Ukraine today released the final results of the country's March 26 parliamentary vote.

The Central Election Commission said the results are as follows: The Party of Regions, led by former Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovych, won 32.14 percent of the vote, the Bloc of Yulia Tymoshenko received 22.29 percent, the Our Ukraine bloc of Prime Minister Viktor Yushchenko received 13.95 percent, the Socialist Party won 5.69 percent, and the Communist Party won 3.66 percent.

In the 450-seat parliament, the Regions Party will have 186 seats. The Bloc of Yulia Tymoshenko will have 129 seats, Our Ukraine 81, the Socialists 33, and the Communists, 21.
