Georgia Out To Win Hearts And Minds In Kodori

A truck carrying humanitarian aid for the Kodori Gorge on July 28 (InterPressNews) August 2, 2006 -- After its operation against rebel militia in the Kodori Gorge last week, the Georgian government is now considering how to win the hearts and minds of the local population.

A meeting today discussed plans to install the pro-Georgian Abkhaz government-in-exile in the gorge, the repair of a hospital and secondary schools in the area, and the reconstruction of the local airport.

The gorge forms part of the territory of Georgia's breakaway province of Abkhazia and is the only part still controlled by Tbilisi.
