Kyrgyz President Ends Visit To Uzbekistan


President Bakiev (in file photo) has stepped up cooperation with Uzbekistan (RFE/RL) October 4, 2006 -- Kyrgyzstan's president, Kurmanbek Bakiev, has wrapped up his first official trip to neighboring Uzbekistan with a visit to the historical Silk Road city of Samarkand.


Bakiev traveled there with Uzbek Prime Minister Shavkat Mirziyoev.

On October 3, Bakiev and his Uzbek counterpart Islam Karimov signed a series of economic and security agreements.


The Kyrgyz leader also met with parliamentary speaker Erkin Khalilov.
