October 14, 2006 -- Gunmen in Iraq have murdered a family of 10, including five women and three children, in a rural area south of the capital, Baghdad.
Overnight, Iraqi police found the corpses of 14 murder victims scattered around Baghdad, many of them riddled with bullets and showing signs of torture.
In other news, an Iraqi journalist working for the government-run television station al-Iraqiya has been killed in a drive-by shooting in southern Baghdad. Ra'id Qais al-Shammari was standing near his home talking with a friend when he was shot on October 13 in the Al-Dura neighborhood.
The attack follows the killing on October 12 of 11 people at a TV station in Baghdad.
