Parliament Head Says Kyiv Seeking Closer Ties With Europe


Oleksandr Moroz in Moscow last month (ITAR-TASS) November 6, 2006 -- The speaker of Ukraine's parliament told the visiting Council of Europe chief today that Ukraine will continue to strive for closer ties with Europe.


Speaker Oleksandr Moroz is the head of Ukraine's Socialist Party, which is part of pro-Russian Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovych's governing coalition.


Earlier today, Council of Europe head Terry Davis and Foreign Minister Borys Tarasiuk signed a memorandum on opening an office in Kyiv for Europe's top human rights body.
