Russia Says Its Iraq Embassy Raked With Gunfire


(RFE/RL) January 11, 2007 -- Russia's Foreign Ministry said today gunmen fired on the Russian Embassy in Baghdad twice on January 10.


No casualties or injuries were reported but the building of the diplomatic mission was damaged.


Russia called in Iraq's ambassador to Moscow and a high-ranking U.S. official to complain about the attack.


In June 2006, militants kidnapped and killed four Russian Embassy staff in Baghdad.

Fiji is participating as part of the UN mission in Iraq. Hungary, Iceland, Slovenia, and Turkey are NATO countries supporting Iraqi stability operations but are not part of MNF-I.
