World War II Shells Found In Ukrainian Capital

February 13, 2007 -- Ukraine's Emergency Situations Ministry said today that 86 artillery shells dating back to World War II were discovered in Kyiv on February 12.

The ministry said the shells were found by construction workers. Explosives experts were dispatched to the site.

Thousands of unexploded shells and grenades are found every year in Ukraine. The country was the scene of heavy fighting between Nazi German and Soviet troops during World War II.
