April 28, 2007 -- Ambassadors from the 15 countries on the United Nations Security Council today concluded a fact-finding tour of Serbia's UN-administered Kosovo Province.
The diplomats said upon completion of the tour that they will deliberate on a disputed UN plan that would give Kosovo internationally-supervised independence without "setting deadlines."
The delegation on April 27 heard from members of Kosovo's ethnic Albanian majority who said they are ready for independence from Serbia.
The delegates also heard Kosovar Serbs argue that the province must remain part of Serbia.
After their deliberations, the UN Security Council is to make a decision on whether to accept the proposal that would put Kosovo on the path to independence.
