Death Toll Rises To Three In Ukrainian Mine Blast

(RFE/RL) May 9, 2007 -- The death toll following a methane gas explosion in a Ukrainian coal mine has risen to three.

Emergency officials now say the blast killed three miners, one from a heart failure after being rescued, and injured 13.

The methane leak occurred about 900 meters beneath the surface of the Krasnolymanska mine in the eastern Donetsk region.

All 473 miners who were underground at the time of the blast have been brought to the surface.
