Armenia President Robert Kocharian (CTK)
May 11, 2007 -- Armenians go to the polls on May 12 to elect a new parliament.
President Robert Kocharian has called on the future parliament to avoid a political crisis like the one in Ukraine, where the parliament and the president have been locked in a bitter standoff.
The United States and the European Union have warned of negative consequences for the Armenian government if observers rule that Saturday's vote is not free and fair.
Past elections have been marred by allegations of large-scale voting irregularities.
