Mandela Made Honorary Citizen Of Belgrade


Nelson Mandela (file photo) (epa) May 15, 2007 -- Former South African President and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Nelson Mandela has been made an honorary citizen of the Serbian capital, Belgrade.


The city municipality today voted unanimously to convey the honor on Mandela for his contribution to the "fight for equality, peace, and development of democracy in the world."


Mandela has won hundreds of awards around the world for standing up to South Africa's apartheid regime and supporting numerous causes since retiring from politics in 1999.
