OSCE Calls On Belarus To End Political Imprisonment

(RFE/RL) July 9, 2007 (RFE/RL) -- Lawmakers from member countries of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe have called on Belarus to release all political prisoners and stop imprisoning people on the basis of their political beliefs.

The call came in a wide-ranging declaration adopted by the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly at a meeting in Kyiv today.

The document also recommends greater action in areas such as migration and energy and environmental security, and expresses regret at the lack of progress in resolving the so-called "frozen conflicts" in the OSCE region.
