Another Azerbaijani Journalist Arrested


Bahaddin Haziyev's newspaper has come under official pressure before (file photo) (RFE/RL) BAKU, July 25, 2007 (RFE/RL) -- Police in Azerbaijan have arrested an opposition newspaper editor and accused him of soliciting a bribe, RFE/RL's Azerbaijani Service reported.

Prosecutors say Musfiq Huseynov, economics editor of the opposition paper "Bizim yol" (Our Way), was arrested after taking $3,500 from a government official in return for not publishing compromising material.

"Bizim Yol" Editor in Chief Bahaddin Haziyev says Huseynov has published numerous critical articles about the Labor and Social Protection Ministry.

Eight journalists including Huseynov are in Azerbaijani jails on work-related charges.
