Armenians Charged With Killing Russian Soldier


(RFE/RL) August 9, 2007 -- Prosecutors in Yerevan have charged two Armenian citizens with the murder of a Russian military officer.


Lieutenant Dmitry Yermolov, who was stationed in Armenia, was killed on August 6 in a village on the outskirts of Yerevan.


According to prosecutors, the two Armenians stopped a car carrying five Russian soldiers and started a fight.


The two Armenians reportedly beat the Russian servicemen and fired gunshots at their vehicle, killing Yermolov and wounding another passenger in the car.
