EU Demands Serbian Clarification On Kosovo Threat

Olli Rehn (file) (epa) September 7, 2007 -- The European Union's Enlargement Commissioner, Olli Rehn, has demanded that Serbia explain remarks that Belgrade could send troops into Kosovo to thwart Western recognition of the breakaway province's independence.

Rehn said the comments by the Serbian secretary of state for Kosovo, Dusan Prorokovic, were "highly unfortunate," and said he expected a clarification before Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica visits Brussels on September 12.

Rehn made the statement on the sidelines of an EU foreign ministers' meeting in Viana do Castelo, Portugal.
