Peace Talks Due to Begin in Chechnya Tomorrow

Moscow, June 26 (RFE/RL) -- Russian negotiators led by Nationalities Minister Vyacheslav Mikhailov have arrived in the Chechen capital Grozny for talks with top separatist leaders.

The talks, due to begin tomorrow, will focus on implementing a military agreement signed by both sides. The visit is expected to last several days.

Mikhailov told reporters before leaving Moscow for Grozny that he expected the negotiations to be difficult.

But he said "We have to take this perhaps unique chance to achieve peace in Chechnya."
