Russia: Solidarity Pledges To Fund Orphanage In Chechnya

  • Chris Klimiuk

Warsaw, 16 December 1996 (RFE/RL) -- The widow of the late Chechen separatist leader Dzhokar Dudayev says Poland's "Solidarity" trade union is offering to fund a new orphanage in Chechnya.

Alla Dudayev told RFE/RL that Solidarity leader Marian Krzaklewsi made the offer in Warsaw during a conference on Chechnya.

Mrs. Dudayev is appealing for international cooperation to help rebuild her war-torn former Soviet republic.

She said countries that have said they would stay out of what they called "internal Russian matters" should at least offer help to rebuild orphanages, schools or hospitals.
