Washington, 12 February 1997 (RFE/RL) - The United States yesterday welcomed the Serbian parliament's decision to reinstate opposition victories last November in local elections in 14 cities.
White House spokesman Michael McCurry said the United States is encouraged that the necessary step towards recognizing the expression of free will by the people of Serbia had occurred.
He said it's very important that the decision be fully implemented and that the elected members of the municipal councils take their seats and begin their work.
