Russia: Primakov Due At White House Today

Washington, 17 March 1997 (RFE/RL) - Russian Foreign Minister Yevgeny Primakov is due at the White House in Washington today for talks with U.S. President Bill Clinton on this week's U.S.-Russian summit.

Primakov has already had two days of talks in Washington. He met Secretary of State Madeleine Albright on Saturday and Defense Secretary William Cohen on Sunday. The Foreign Minister's meeting with Clinton is expected to be a review of the agenda for Clinton's sessions with Russian President Boris Yeltsin.

Clinton and Yeltsin are to meet in Helsinki on Thursday and Friday. The Russians agreed to delay the start of the summit by one day to accomodate Clinton, who underwent emergency surgery on his right knee on Friday.
