Sofia, 20 March 1997 (RFE/RL) - U.S. ambassador to Sofia, Avis Boulen, has urged Bulgaria's interim government to take measures to halt the illegal production of CD's in the country.
Our Sofia correspondent says the issue was raised by Boulen at a meeting yesterday with deputy Prime Minister Haralamby Anchev.
This was the second time in two days that the question of illegal CD's production has been raised with Bulgarian officials. EU representative Hans van den Broek, who left Bulgaria Tuesday after a two-day official visit, also called on the Bulgarian government to stop the CD piracy.
Bulgaria is said to be second to China in illegal CD production. International experts warn this might be an obstacle to Bulgaria's integration into European structures.
