By Hrair Tarmazian

Yeveran, April 4 (RFE/RL) - Armenian President Levon Ter-Petrosyan in a surpising move has met with leaders of the banned Dashnak party.

An official statement by Armenpress says the talks with Dashnak bureau members, including Armenian-American representative Karo Armenian, focused on national political issues. The statement also described the talks as very positive and constructive and said the President and the Dashnak leaders met twice earlier this week.

The Dashnak party was outlawed in December 1994 and the party's leader at the time, Hrair Marukhian, was expelled from the country.
