Russia: Ex-Adviser To Yeltsin Named Deputy Finance Minister

Moscow, 7 April 1997 (RFE/RL) - Sergei Ignatyev, a former economics adviser to President Boris Yeltsin, today was named first deputy finance minister.

Government spokesman Igor Shabdurasulov said Ignatyev will serve under first deputy premier Anatoly Chubais. A trained economist, the 49-year-old Ignatyev was deputy economics and finance minister in 1991.

He became deputy finance minister in 1992 and deputy economics minister from 1993 to 1996. He was dismissed as Yeltsin's economics adviser on Saturday.
