Tajikistan: Russian Border Service Official Visits

Dushanbe, 15 April 1997 (RFE/RL) - The Deputy Director of Russia's Federal Border Service, Colonel-General, Aleksandr Tymko, arrived in Dushanbe today. Itar-Tass news agency says Tymko's visit will focus on issues connected with the security of the Tajikistan-Afghanistan border, where a Russian-led, CIS peace-keeping force patrols.

The visit follows an incident yesterday when Dushanbe air-traffic controllers refused to allow a Russian troop-transport plane to land. Tajik officials said there was a misunderstanding about routine notification concerning the arrival of military flights.
