Romania: Ex-Gymnast Hospitalized With Food Poisoning

Bucharest, 5 May 1997 (RFE/RL) - A spokesman for Romania's Health Ministry says former gymnastics world champion Dan Grecu has been hospitalized with food poisoning after eating some canned vegetables.

The ministry spokesman says Grecu, who is now the head coach of the Romanian national men's gymnastics team, was in "critical" condition today.

The 47-year-old Grecu was rings world champion in 1974. He also won the European championship in 1975 and a bronze medal at the 1976 Olympics in Montreal.
