Bucharest, 15 May 1997 (RFE/RL) - Moldova's Prime Minister, Ion Ciubuc, arrived today in Bucharest on a two-day official visit in a bid to boost relations between the two neighbouring countries.
Starting his first official visit abroad as chief of Moldova's executive, Ciubuc expressed the hope that after his trip relations between Moldova and Romania will be intensified.
Ciubuc met this morning with his Romanian counterpart Victor Ciorbea.
Before the meeting Ciorbea said that Romania, Ukraine and Moldova intended to create two free trade zones around their common borders.
Later today Ciubuc is scheduled to meet Romanian President Emil Constantinescu and the speakers of the two houses of parliament.
Ciubuc is accompanied by a delegation of Chisinau businessmen. Trade between Romania and Moldova last year totaled $180 million.
