Almaty, 4 June 1997 (RFE/RL) -- Azerbaijan's President Heidar Aliyev is meeting today with foreign oil executives around an international exhibition in Baku devoted to Caspian Sea oil reserves.
Oil companies from more than 40 countries, including the Commonwealth of Independent States, are participating in the exhibition. The international exhibition opened yesterday and continues through tomorrow.
Aliyev is planning to travel to Kazakkhstan's capital Almaty June 10 where he is expected to sign a deal allowing Kazakh oil to be piped through Azerbaijan on its way to terminals on the Black Sea. A total of 14 other cooperation agreements are due to be signed at the same time.
