Kyrgyzstan: Foreign Minister Replaced

Bishkek, 1 July 1997 (RFE/RL) -- Kyrgyz President Askar Akayev today replaced Foreign Minister Roza Otunbayeva with the head of the president's international department, Muratbek Imamaliyev.

Otunbayeva is now due to become the ambassador to Great Britain. However, our correspondent notes that there is not yet a Kyrgyz embassy in London.

Otunbayeva held the post of Foreign Minister since 1994, prior to which she served as ambassador to the United States.
